A massive meeting at the top of the table as Manchester United, in top spot, host a Liverpool side in third (on equal points with Chelsea in second) at Old Trafford.

Having lead the Barclays Premier League in the early stages of the season, Rafa Benitez’s men relinquished their place at the top of the tree to a dominant Red Devils team in January.

They are now seven points behind the leaders, and will need to overcome a resilient United defence if they are to close the gap and keep any realistic hopes of clinching the title alive.

Earlier in the season, Liverpool edged the reverse fixture 2-1, bringing an end to United’s winning streak in the previous four meetings.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has no fresh injury concerns.

Ferguson will be picking from strength as the leaders look to record a 12th successive win, with changes expected from Wednesday night’s win over Inter Milan.

Carlos Tevez could come into contention for a striking berth, with Anderson among those hoping for a midfield slot.

Liverpool team news

Spanish winger Albert Riera will return to the Liverpool squad at Manchester United having been suspended for the midweek victory over Real Madrid.

But midfielder Yossi Benayoun is still out with a hamstring injury, as Liverpool try to give Rafael Benitez his 100th Barclays Premier League win as Anfield manager.

Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard were both withdrawn in the final stages of the triumph over Real, to protect them for the Old Trafford encounter. Daniel Agger is unlikely to have recovered from his back injury.

Liverpool will be bidding to recover from their defeat to Middlesbrough when they host Sunderland.

Liverpool will be without Fernando Torres again.

Sunderland team news

Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia is hoping to have strikers Kenwyne Jones and Djibril Cisse fit.

Jones returned to training at the weekend after a knee problem, while Cisse is recovering well from an ankle injury and is in line to play against his former club.

Steed Malbranque (calf) and Teemu Tainio (knee) are hopeful of being available after picking up knocks in the 0-0 draw at Arsenal on 21st February, while Phil Bardsley is back from suspension.

However, defender Nyron Nosworthy remains on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring strain.

West Bromwich Albion host Arsenal looking to bridge the four-point gap that has developed between themselves and the other clubs in the relegation zone.

The last time these sides met, former Arsenal player Kanu scored the first as West Brom triumphed 2-1.

Arsenal have now drawn 0-0 four times on the trot in the Barclays Premier League.

West Brom skipper Jonathan Greening could make his first start for nearly six weeks against Arsenal after launching his comeback from medial ligament damage as a substitute against Everton at the weekend.

Albion’s on-loan Arsenal striker Jay Simpson is ineligible to play against his parent club and his place could be taken by Luke Moore, who impressed after coming off the bench at Goodison Park.

Fellow forward Roman Bednar is again a doubt because of a back problem while midfielder Filipe Teixeira is included in the squad despite still suffering from a broken toe.

Central defender Jonas Olsson has returned to training after a knee injury but will not be considered to face the Gunners.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal will be without defender William Gallas (ankle) for the trip. Johan Djourou is set to come into the centre alongside Kolo Toure.

Theo Walcott (shoulder) and striker Eduardo (hamstring) are not yet fully match fit. Mikael Silvestre (calf), Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring), captain Cesc Fabregas (knee) and Tomas Rosicky (hamstring tendon) remain sidelined.

Portsmouth will have unpleasant memories of their last league encounter against Chelsea.

Senegalese international Papa Bouba Diop remains sidelined with knee ligament damage.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea will again be without defender Ricardo Carvalho for the trip.

Carvalho will, however, feature for the reserves against Aston Villa on Monday night as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury, along with Michael Essien, who is on the brink of full fitness after long-term knee ligament problems.

Midfielder Deco (hamstring) is again doubtful.

Aston Villa host Stoke City on Sunday hoping to halt their inconsistent home form with a victory against one of the worst travelling teams in the Barclays Premier League.

Aston Villa will return to virtually full strength for the Barclays Premier League clash at home to Stoke on Sunday.

Gareth Barry, Brad Friedel, Emile Heskey, James Milner, Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Carlos Cuellar and Stiliyan Petrov should all figure after being rested for Thursday night’s UEFA Cup defeat to CSKA Moscow.

John Carew should also be included after missing the 2-0 loss with a back injury. The only other absentees are the injured duo of Martin Laursen and Wilfred Bouma, although the latter is close to a return after recovering from dislocating his ankle.

Stoke team news

Stoke will still have suspended duo Rory Delap and Matthew Etherington out of the squad, but manager Tony Pulis hopes striker Ricardo Fuller will take some part in the match.

Fuller has been out with a shoulder problem and a late decision will be taken on his involvement.

Liam Lawrence, who returned to action last week after an ankle injury, and had another 45 minutes in a reserve match in midweek, may also be in contention for a starting place.
