Telangana in Andhra Pradesh is on the boil once again with two students committing suicide for the cause of the statehood for the 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The Students Action Committee has called for a total shutdown in Telangana on 20th Jan 2010.
After an MCA student reportedly depressed over the delay in formation of separate Telangana state immolated himself at the Osmania University
(OU) campus, an 18-year-old student also set herself ablaze in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday night, police said. (Read & Watch: Osmania University tense after student suicide)
According to police, the deceased identified as Suvarna, a BSc first-year student at a private college in Kothakota town of Mahabubnagar district, attended her classes and returned home by 5.30 pm.
“Suvarna locked herself in a room and lit herself on fire after pouring kerosene,” police said based on preliminary investigations.
A suicide note purportedly written by Suvarna, which was found in her room said that she was apprehensive on if Telangana state would be formed or not.
“Our team has gone to the spot and they are investigating the matter,” a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile, TRS MLAs from Telangana are sitting on a dharna outside the Speaker’s residence, insisting that their resignations be accepted. On Wednesday, all MLAs and MPs from Telangana have been summoned to Hyderabad.
The all-party Joint Action Committee, which has been holding relay hunger strikes for the past four days, also held an emergency meeting to review the situation in Telangana after the students’ suicide.
The Congress legislators from Telangana also held a separate meeting to discuss their resignations before attending the JAC meeting.
